Why Fishes Make The Best Pets
Pets are known to make good companions with dogs taking the lead. However, pets of the aquatic kind may finally be getting their place in the sun.
People are finally realizing that fishkeeping is less demanding and less expensive than keeping dogs or cats, with tanks today being virtually maintenance free.
In fact, there are twice as many pet fish in the United States as there are dogs, according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, Inc., a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization. Of course it helps that a typical aquarium will have lots more than one fish while people would rarely have more than one dog.
Fishkeeping also fosters physiological benefits for people, such as lower blood pressure and stress – and even improving your love life, according to the association. Their variety ensures that your tank is always full of its own vibrant life.
And fishes are intelligent too. Each one comes with its own set of characteristics, and you can spend hours looking at them swimming about without getting the least bit bored.
Hospitals and clinics also find that having an aquarium in the lobby helps to alleviate stress for patients and their families, apart from providing its own form of entertainment.
So the next time your kids ask for a pet, you know what to get.
