Microsoft Goes Fishy (Betta) With Windows 7 Beta
The millions of testers who opt to download and install Windows 7 Beta 1 Build 7000 prepare to be greeted by the new default wallpapers of the operating system, featuring none other than the Siamese fighting fish.
In fact, Windows 7 has been offering users a chance to have the the Betta splendens, as their background since before Christmas 2008, when Build 7000 was initially leaked.
Since it appears that it is only part of the beta release, are they making a poor pun at Beta and Betta (the scientific name for the Siamese fighting fish)? Or is there something more to it?
Softpedia seems to think that since the beta available in pet stores today are very different from the rather drab ones avalable in the wild thanks to selective breeding, Microsoft is hinting at a “selective breeding” of its own via the evolution process from Vista to Win 7.
Whatever the reason, I like it.
