A Fish Pedicure Anyone, With The Doctor Fish?

fish-pedicure-20090103Originating from Turkey, this is a prequel to a standard pedicure performed by a type of carp called the garra rufa or doctor fish, which are found in the river basins of the Northern and Central Middle East, mainly in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran The pedicure involves immersing your feet in a tub of warm water with a bunch of these tiny fish and allowing them to tear hungrily at your feet.
Just kidding, these fish only consume the affected and dead areas of the skin, so there is little chance of your foot disappearing – moreover, they do not have teeth, so it’s impossible for them to bite or tear into live skin.
The fish work by nibbling at the dead skin on your feet, and making the feet clean, smooth and soft – just right for a normal pedicure that usually follows.
